Re: GM games that sound better on MT-32

Some of it probably depends on if it was quick convert from GM to MT-32, or whether or not the original composer themselves (or good sound programmer) optimized the soundtrack to sound good on multiple soundcards or flat out composed it almost from scratch for more than one from the ground up.

Re: Xeen and Roland synths

Thanks for all investigative work! I love the M&M series and definitely would prefer to use the composer's intended sound module when playing. This is especially useful because most people would just assume based on the release date of the game that the SC-55 was used for the composition. Great …

Re: Xeen and Roland synths

I can confirm now, that Tim Tully used a Roland CM-32L and not a Roland MT-32 for the soundtracks for Might and Magic III~V and Planet's Edge. The ONLY SC-55 versions he had were the SC-55 versions of the Main Themes for Might and Magic IV and Might and Magic V and the King's Bounty II trailer. ( …

Re: Need someone to record music from various (will pay) - AppleIIe, Amiga, old Mac, PC (Speaker, SB1.5), FM-7, MSX, etc

If some of you here have some downtime, I am looking for someone to make some high-quality recordings of the music for a few older games for an archive for my personal friend who composed some of the music. The games were ported to various platforms, so we are trying to get a recording of each …

Re: Xeen and Roland synths

The music for Xeen, at least, was originally composed with a Roland MT-32 or CM-32L -- there is contradictory information here from the composers themselves (in fact, SC-55 in MT-32 mode works very good too, and could have been used). Even if originally composed for MT-32, the sound effects seem to …

Re: MT-32, CM-32L, LAPC-I reversed stereo

Thank you, everyone, for all of the responses. After the discussion, I can at least rephrase my terminology from "reversed" to "opposite" in the panning. Then hopefully neither the Roland MT-32 familiy and the later GM families won't be upset. So I think Falcosoft gave me the primary answer I was …

Re: Need someone to record music from various (will pay) - AppleIIe, Amiga, old Mac, PC (Speaker, SB1.5), FM-7, MSX, etc

Does it have to be Sound Blaster 1.5? Or any card with OPL2 will do? I just got Aztech Sound Galaxy NX working and it sports OPL2. The FM versions of the soundtracks were optimized for Sound Blaster 1.5 (or perhaps version 1.0) OPL2. We are trying to get things recorded as close as possible to the …

Re: Need someone to record music from various (will pay) - AppleIIe, Amiga, old Mac, PC (Speaker, SB1.5), FM-7, MSX, etc

Also, I could manage to record PC speaker sound somehow. Best and easiest way should be just a cable with RCA or jack, connected directly to PC speaker and then record the sound with some external device or another computer. Don't some older soundcards have a way to run the PC-speaker output itself …

Re: Need someone to record music from various (will pay) - AppleIIe, Amiga, old Mac, PC (Speaker, SB1.5), FM-7, MSX, etc

If the game doesn't have any odd speed-sensitive issues, I have an MSX Turbo-R from which I can record. I have a flash cart for it which might make things a bit easier. Only other caveat is that the system supposedly needs a couple of resistor and trace mods to have the best possible audio quality …
