Re: Scan codes: DOSBOX vs DOS/XP

I should have added: Windows XP (SP2) NTVDM, MSDOS v8.0, DOSBOX v0.63 Scancodes for IBM 101 keyboard. There are 363 possible scan-codes, of which 13 are undefined and 10 are used for special character entry. Abbreviations used: TL = Tee-Arrow Left NL = Num Pad Arrow Left TR = Tee-Arrow Right NR = …

Scan codes: DOSBOX vs DOS/XP

I tried to use the Num Pad '5' key the other day while comparing the functionality of the game "Silent Hunter" under the DOSBOX v0.63 environment versus the native WinXP NTVDM DOS emulation. The keyboard did not function the same as it did under the WinXP NTVDM emulation environment. I decided to …

Re: Where to get GUS patches

You are correct that DOSBOX defines the %ULTRADIR% variable, however I was executing the GUS v4.11 and the PPL v1.50 update under a regular WinXP CMD.exe console after downloading the files. The console window had no such environmental variable defined, so the initial error message was a supprise. I …

Re: Where to get GUS patches

Just so someone else does not waste a lot of time with the installation of the "®Pro Patches Lite v1.50" installation. You NEED to have TWO environmental variables defined for the program to work, otherwise you will get a Borland Pascal-style message "Runtime error 0003 at 0000:2CEF" as it dumps to …

Re: Small "bug" in the internal dos

The way DOSBOX works is the way that real DOS works. Since DOS 2.x the Command.com execution order has been *.COM, *.EXE, *.BAT. See this older thread here on the same subject. The *.BAT before *.COM and *.EXE went out with PCDOS 1.x in the early 1980s. dvwjr

Re: Great Naval Battles problem

Here is the D-Fend v2 front-end 'profile' for DOSBOX v0.63 that I have succesfully used to run GNBNA v1.2 (patched). [Extra] CloseOnExit=1 Loadhigh=0 Exe=C:\DosGames\GNBNA\GNBNA386.EXE Setup=C:\DosGames\GNBNA\SOUND.EXE CustomSettings= SyncUpDown=0 autoexec= GameParameters=EMS SetupParameters= …

Re: VESA Testing Thread - Work Vesa Work!

in Milliways
Here is another report on a VESA compliant video adapter which functions the same under DOS **and** WinXP for all the VESA mode applications that the VBE 3.0 compliant video supports. It is the on-board VGA/Graphics accelerator included on some models of the new Intel 82915G/GV/910 GL Express …

Re: Virtual memory

See this thread for what is happening with Windows XP, virtual memory and running Syndicate Wars... You can add all the Virtual Memory to Windows XP that you wish, the DPMI server built into Windows XP will use it ALL as backing store for the DPMI memory requests of Syndicate Wars... See this thread …

Re: Syndicate Wars

Yes, the reason that they can get Syndicate Wars working with VDMSound is that the batch file was edited to run "SETSOUND.EXE" before the Syndicate Wars "MAIN.EXE" file. Running the "SETSOUND.EXE" file makes sure that all the components of VDMSound are initialized and in the Windows XP virtual …

Re: Syndicate Wars

hmmm did you try mouse2kv or something like that ? look in deep thought on this board. else try cutemouse as mousedriver. another version of dos4gw might help as well (again deep thought) I know what the problem is with Syndicate Wars under the DOS emulation of Windows XP, but I do not have the …

Re: Force full-screen with VDMSound Launcher

Hm. Yes, "Enable basic VESA support" did slow down everything quite considerably. Couldn't there be added an option that doesn't enable VESA, but just does the ALT+ENTER function somehow? It must be possible to do this to the window through the Windows API, no? I did use the Windows API to create a …

Re: Games that require MSCDEX exe driver...

in DOS
Such info would be interesting for patching the game and jump the check. However, I'm not interested in such a solution as I want to be able to play games without alteration. You've tweaked my curiousity. Could you post JUST the main EXEcutable file on this thread? I'd like to look at how this WRF …

How about a one character "gutter" to the left and right of the text message area of these forums. It would improve the readabilty in the same way that it does in books, newspaper columns etc. _How about a one character "gutter" to the left and right of the text message area of these_ _forums. Re: Mouse in top half of screen only in game

If you wish to use the MOUSE2KV.EXE utility with many of the games that have been mentioned on this thread, update from Win2K to WinXP. No longer will you have the "trapped" or "half-screen" mouse. If you continue to use WinNT4 or Win2K, you will continue to have mouse cursor problems with many DOS …

Re: Mission Critical - stuck mouse, mouse2kv doesn't seem to work

in DOS
The short answer is to upgrade to Window XP Professional (SP1) and you will not have the "stuck"mouse problem. If MOUSE2KV solves a problem on WinNT4 or Win2K, fine. Otherwise upgrade to WinXP and then MOUSE2KV will properly "accelerate" your mouse and allow the movement over the complete screen …

Re: Fantasy General...running at last

in DOS
Good luck to you then. I tried Mouse2Kv with Fantasy General on Windows NT (SP6a), VDMSound 2.0.4 (Update1,2) and it works just fine with: Copy code to clipboard 1 cd \exe 2 C:\Utils\Mouse2KV 640 480 8 8 Barena.exe n 3 cd.. If it will work on WinNT, then it will work on Win2K or WinXP. dvwjr

Re: Fantasy General...running at last

in DOS
Yes. Use the "C:\Utils" sub-directory instead of the "C:\Utilities" name that you chose. There is a reason that I selected "C:\Utils", it has less than eight characters, yours has nine characters. Try mine and you should have no problem. The other way to solve the problem is by enclosing the …
