Re: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS front panel

in Marvin \ Sound
I suppose that live<=>drive interconnection is digital, so shielding doesn't affect on sound quality (in this particular case). there's a DAC and a headphone amplifier on the drive's PCB. seems like there's something wrong with them, mostly with the amp. are you the first owner of the module and did …

Re: Now here's something that sounds off.

in Marvin \ Video
I talked to that guy and he sent me the GPU photo. He claimed that that markings are fake, but I see that circle that is nvidia prop, and hope everyone interested wouldn't bite this snatch. And memory chips are 7ns (133mhz). One more thing. $120 for “rebaged” voodoo3 card is too much even if it's …

Re: Yamaha MU2000EX

in Marvin \ Sound
thanks for advise. it seems that is a final (r1) update to 2000ex version. I'm looking for the possibility of backward process I.e. to reflash extended mu2000ex/r1 version to original mu2000 is it possible at all?

Re: Can't get sound out of CT3670

in Marvin \ Sound
you have to set the card to one of “standard” configs like address 220 or 240, Irq 5 or 7, dMA low 1 or 3, dma high 5 or 7. check other hardware for resources conflicts, may be remove it and check the sound works ok. then add removed cards one by one checking that sound still works. if after …

Re: Yamaha MU2000EX

is there a way to flash original MU2000 firmware to mu2000ex module? just want to compare tf300b mode to ex's gm. some people say that gm music sounds better on non-ex firmware

Re: Adding Text to Config.sys for Menus

Thanks, now I know it :) I tuned autoexec to assemble sound init .bat file during boot from batch files in corresponding directory, you just need to put to or delete needed for current hardware config files in that directory. the only thing I cannot manage to be made on-the-fly is to load current …

Re: Adding Text to Config.sys for Menus

The most comfortable thing is that the last chosen menu item is "memorised" and selected by default on next restart. I made it by "compiling" i.e. copying several needed parts of config.sys into one file every startup. so you have several HEADER files with MENU and different MENUDEFAULT strings and …

Re: Gravis UltraSound : Classic Found With Open Traces

in Marvin \ Sound
Today got the same card (ver 2.4) in similar condition: +5V trace is burnt out. It seems like it is a common problem to this PCB version. Just patched the card with a thin isolated wire. The burn to the right of patched one is alive indeed. I left it as is because card works for now. Maybe it will …

Re: AWE32 - some questions please

in Marvin \ Sound
Creative Labs always print PCB version in the lower left corner of their cards - from Game Blaster 'til X-Fi, may be later too. Ofcourse on PCI and PCI-E cards they use lower right corner. For example 039436 means the PCB revision is number 3 and it was signed to production on 36th week of 1994.

Re: Creative CT1620 card questions

in Marvin \ Sound
Resolderd those yellow wires back to corresponding points. Sound volume returned to the previous level. Distortion in the right channel still audible as where we were started at. Does anybody has the manual and/or driver set for this card model (CT1620)? Need them hardly. Am I alone owner. If …

Re: Creative CT1620 card questions

in Marvin \ Sound
I've cut those yellow wires on the back side of the card by sidecutters (the PCB stays intact). The audio otput became way too off even on 3.5 jack. At maximum volume levels the left channel brings background noises only while in the right (defective!) there's a sound but far-far away. I think I'd …

Re: Creative CT1620 card questions

in Marvin \ Sound
Thanks for advise! I found that distortion amount in right channel really depends on hardware mixer volume. It seems that Diagnose.exe when started reinits the card and therefore ignores mixer settings (sbpset.exe). When set to 250 both master and voice, the sound in right channel is very distorted …
