Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

Your games were previously set up for one emulator (vanilla DOSBox in this case) already. Why would you even expect them to run in another emulator (DOSBox-X in this case) without any changes at all? They are different emulators, and even if you try to run pre-configured games in different real DOS …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

I'm going to split this -X discussion off this thread later today. "Your experience is also exclusive to only you." <- consider this: everyone figures it out and is fine with -X being different than vanilla Dosbox, because it is NOT vanilla Dosbox. You seem to carry a grudge ever since it turned …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

Not really, no. It's very easy to setup. I suspect a lot of people use it successfully. Not when you have to jump through additonal hoops. I had the exact same setup on vanilla DOSBox and it turned into a week long ordeal trying to get the exact same game and installation to properly run on DOXBox …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

DOSBox-X is for games and more. What's so hard to understand about that ? For reasons I've already listed it's clearly geared more towards jack of all trades and master of none. "What's so hard to understand about that?" I can run any game with DOSBox-X just fine. I never said you couldn't. Your …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

It is more correct to say that DOSBox-X goes beyond DOS gaming and has some config options with different default values from vanilla DOSBox, not that it is not geared towards games in general. DOSBox-X has several advanced but useful features designed almost exclusively for gaming purposes, such …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows & Linux)

Honesty, I don't see much benefit in adding LFN to ECE, if any at all, as it's primary use is still running DOS games. And I think using long file names with those would create more problems than it would be useful. Why don't you just use on of the other, more advanced forks that offer LFN support, …

Re: Rebel Moon artwork?

in Milliways
Mobygames¹ has the answer: Rebel Moon is a first-person shooter bundled exclusively with the Creative Labs 3D Blaster PCI or VLB 2D/3D accelerators. The game is only compatible with a video card utilizing the Rendition Verite 1000 Chipset. [1] https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/rebel-moon I guess …

Rebel Moon artwork?

in Milliways
Did this game ever come with cover or box artwork? This is one game that I missed back in '95 when it was released and it seems odd due to the year that I'm not able to find any images of cover art or even a box that I'm assuming it was shipped in. I've seen pictures of the sequal "Rebel Moon Rising …

Re: FluidSynth MIDI driver

It has already been confirmed that the so-called “incompatibility” is caused by a mismatch of the Sound Blaster IRQ (5 vs 7), as setting that correctly would immediately fix the issue for the mentioned game in DOSBox-X. While it is true that DOS gaming is indeed not the sole focus of DOSBox-X, this …

Re: FluidSynth MIDI driver

Why not use different versions for different uses? Want to play with fluidsynth, start the ECE. Need LFN support, start a version with that. Because I would like to have fluidsynth and OGG/MP3 file playback as well as LFN support at the same time which DOSBox-X has. The problem is that in trying to …

Re: FluidSynth MIDI driver

The diff file does nothing on its own the perceived improvement is a placebo effect. You need to use the diff file to patch the source code and then you need to compile Dosbox. You're partically right. Upon looking into this further the difference in sound was caused by changing the games sound …

Re: FluidSynth MIDI driver

Anyone get this to work with soundfonts with standard DOSBox 0.74.x in windows? Once I drop the fluidsynth.diff file into the DOSBox directory many games have improved music with just default values without changing anything in the config file but I can't seem to get DOSBox to read any soundfonts …

Re: DOSBox X Quake music problem

DosFreak wrote on 2021-04-29, 20:29: Here for DOSBox-X issues: https://github.com/joncampbell123/dosbox-x/issues I remember seeing a issue concerning offical dosbox vs a fork of which I'm fairly certain it was dosbox-x recently on github but it appears to have vanished. Thanks. I'll try there as …

Re: DOSBox X Quake music problem

I'm having an issue with DOSBox X where the Quake music doesn't sound right compared to standard DOSBox 0.74. Indeed, wouldn't it be more appropriate to ask this question in the DOSBox-X forum if the bug is not present in standard DOSBox? Is this the thread you guys are talking about? https://www. …

DOSBox X Quake music problem

I'm having an issue with DOSBox X where the Quake music doesn't sound right compared to standard DOSBox 0.74. Both versions have the exact same sound settings and Quake is being run via QDOS on both to allow music playback of OGG files since the machine I'm currently using doesn't have an optical …
