Ca. 2007 PC - "Dorado" - C2Q Q6600, SLI

A year ago I'd messaged a computer recycler, saying hey, I'm on the lookout for old PCs. He messaged me recently saying he had a computer that was high end back in its day, and sent me some pics. It looked like an eVGA nforce SLI motherboard and a video card with two PCI-E connectors, so I figured …

I noticed "failed enable target role" first and was concerned, but then it looks like for some reason it's just trying to enable it more than once so maybe this is normal? It obviously works to some extent. Mine does that too, it's because of the AHC_TMODE_ENABLE in the kernel config. I'm not sure …

I would like to add a small note that I was able to pass through an ISO from my VM to the SCSI bus, as a CDROM, and it was bootable to the client. Since my SCSI card is set to boot ID 7 lun 0, I removed everything and set the lun 0 to be the cdrom. You have to specify a device type of CDROM (5) when …

Just writing up the CTL stuff My ctl.conf target eui.943d07ce77ecc404 { port ahc0 port ahc1 lun 0{ path /root/floppyimg } lun 1{ path /dev/da1 } lun 2{ path /dev/cd0 } } The target EUI doesn't matter, I made it with `openssl rand -hex 8` . CTL requires an EUI, IQN or NAA number here though. sysrc …

Adaptec PSCSI cards When you say "PSCSI" do you mean "parallel SCSI"? I don't think that "PSCSI" is a conventional abbreviation for that, is it? Yes just parallel SCSI. I'm probably just making up the PSCSI acronym. I since found that LIO uses the term pscsi as pass-through SCSI so there's likely …

A couple of other notes - this may only be important for setup: It looks like, at least for now, only 2 HDDs are recognized by the machine. This may be because the 39320 isn't actually supported by 98SE and the drives are just passing through with Int 13h. One of the things I like in this setup is …

PSCSI Disk Emulation success!

in PC Emulation
I really hate dedicating storage to old PCs. I'm not sure why - and the idea has always tickled my fancy that I should definitely be able to emulate a SCSI disk somewhere else. I did it a long time ago and I bet it's even better today. So, without further ado. What I'm doing so far, what I've …

Re: Ca 2000 PC - Albatross

Really brief notes on all the IPXE ISCSI stuff: On my file server "filer", I have a small web server, so when I boot the netboot.xyz menu, I just tell it to drop me back to an ipxe shell and run chain http://10.0.0.34/iscsi/albatross The chain file, which contains simply #!ipxe set initiator-iqn iqn …

Re: Ca 2000 PC - Albatross

My Intel Pro/1000 GT came in right as I had to work a lot of overtime at work, so I had to wait to get XP installed. So the fun part. I really, really didn't want to burn a CD of XP. But making the Unattended boot system work didn't seem to pan out, and I wasn't very interested in setting up RIS. I …

Re: Ca 2000 PC - Albatross

xp might be slow on this, but maybe the iscsi magic will handle; can You describe the iscsi solution in some more detail? both client and server, please i understand it would hold your windows profile? If XP is too slow, I guess I can always put in a local disk and run something. I do have a 10GB …

Re: Ca 2000 PC - Albatross

So back to my earlier comment about storage. Yesterday I ordered an Intel Pro 1000 GT. Why on earth did I choose this? Firstly, it seems to support ROM burning with gPXE very well. I plan to ISCSI Boot Windows XP (I know, late 2001, but I'm not being purist at the moment), since XP seems to be the …
