Re: Very basic questions about RAMDACs

The only difference between a RAMDAC and a DAC is the support for 8-bit pallet modes. The "RAM" part is a 256 entry look-up table (LUT) that outputs RGB. The output bit depth of the LUT matches the bit depth of the DACs. So a 24-bit LUT will output 8:8:8 (8 bits of Red, Green, and Blue) to the DACs, …

Re: Lemmings sound and music?

Re: Getting Tomb Raider 1 working on WinXP SP2

I recommend the Automated Fix because it includes the ATI rendering patch (tombati.exe) as well as improved cutscene options. The retail fix also uses tombati.exe which provides a windows executable using 3D acceleration (you can render at 1080p for example). The GOG and Steam versions both use …

Is there a list of legacy Windows games that work in Windows 7 but are broken in Windows 10? I've seen many comments on PC Gaming Wiki about games broken on Windows 10, but haven't found a comprehensive list.

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

On Carma2, worst-case FPS is at the start of the race when the camera flies down to the starting line with all cars visible. On D3D it would drop down to 15 FPS, while on Glide it would drop to 25 FPS. This is a heavily modified install of Carma2 loaded up with a bunch of high-poly cars and the draw …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

Tested Carmageddon 2 with dgVoodoo2 in both Glide and D3D modes. The glide emulation is providing 70% higher frame rate than D3D, with rendering settings identical between the two. Is this typical for dgVoodoo2? I expected the performance to be about the same with either mode.
