Towards the end of their life the Athlon XP did not compete as well as the P4. The P4 got a lot of boosts with FSB, cache and HT. It also depends on what Pentium 2.8GHz you have. For example if it is the 800MHz FSB with HT I can see that performing better. The Athlon is only clocked at ~2.1GHz. If …

The 6x86L makes me very sad, fine if you are doing basic windows/office apps but many issues with games and even some apps! Had a PR200+ and "downgraded" back to a Pentium 133. The MX is much better.

No not massive. I think Cyrix used higher FSB as they struggled to get MHZ up, so it helped a bit.

When I was testing Cyrix CPUs I found higher MHz was better than higher FSB.

I had a Pentium 4 2.4 with a Geforce 2 Pro back in the day. The Geforce 2 is very much a bottleneck for the system. If the budget works I would much prefer a Geforce 3. Saying this, for 2000-2001 games the Geforce 2 should work well.

Na that’s odd, should be faster. Have you tried 3dmark2000 or something to see if direct3d is ok? Are you running the offical drivers?

At the moment for me it is: IDE Hard Drives, IDE CD/DVD ROMs, ISA Network Cards, Motherboards (all kinds), Fans/Heatsinks and PSUs that can do higher amps. It's funny, I have plently of GPUs, CPUs etc but motherboards and fans/heatsinks are an issue. Space is always a problem.......
