Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too). If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc. Reading the aptly named README file will be a good idea too.

How hard can it be to write a program/script called MyMagicDosbox that will change the working directory to /dir/cg and execute the above …

I don't know what the definition is, but you can add a 'force' (or perhaps it is 'forced'?) to the scale selection, and it will kick in even for 'high res' games. Or - if it is high-res enough, use windowresolution and an output method that supports hardware scaling.
