Re: Maintaining original resolution in fullscreen?

in DOSBox General
So this method scales everything to an as-large-as-possible box on your modern widescreen monitor with the aspect ratio of a 4:3 CRT, with the characteristic black bars on the sides. The OP is asking for no scaling at all. For a 320x240 game, that means a small image in the center surrounded by …

Maintaining original resolution in fullscreen?

in DOSBox General
When I configure things thus: fullresolution = desktop windowresolution = original output = surface ... aspect = false scaler = normal4x DOSBox will scale the video to 4x both in windowed and fullscreen modes (in fullscreen mode you get letterboxing to achieve this). However, when I change output …

Re: Why does Castles 2 go off the screen?

in DOSBox General
Erm, yeah, I don't want to cart it around with me. Or wire it up when I have a whole DOS PC emulator. For that matter, why use DOSBox at all instead of a full-on old PC? 😀 Anyway I tried out the ECE and it does builtin MT-32 emulation nicely. Thanks for the advice @collector.

Re: Why does Castles 2 go off the screen?

in DOSBox General
I'd be happy to if they'd just add MT-32 emulation in mainline DOSBox. I've asked for this on multiple occasions and think it's ridiculous they won't do it. They wouldn't even have to bundle the copyrighted ROM, just make it possible to drop it in.

Why does Castles 2 go off the screen?

in DOSBox General
I'm running DOSBox Daum last updated Jan 2015 (I'm not using the official release because I want MT-32 emulation), and Castles 2 looks like this: http://game-point.net/misc/castles2-daum.png ... when it should look like this, as it does in normal DOSBox releases: http://game-point.net/misc/castles2- …

Issue with the DOSBox debugger

Hi all. This is a bit of a long shot but I thought I'd try here to see whether anyone could help. I'm trying to debug a DOS game, Castles, and I'm debugging the executable CASTLES1.EXE. I've opened and analyzed it in IDA, and I'm also running the DOSBox debugger 0.74-2 and starting the program with …

Analyzing game logic with the DOSBox debugger?

Hi, I'm a software developer and I've dabbled in a bit of debugging but never DOS debugging before and I was wondering how viable this is. I basically want to analyze the game logic of the Sierra/Impressions game Detroit. It has some mysterious game mechanics with how it determines car sales. The …

Re: Why oh why no release since 2010 ?

in DOSBox General
0.74 for most. SVN for if you are impatient. Heh, imparient - nice troll. How long is one meant to wait, a millennium? It's like Microsoft saying they're working on a new OS and still recommending Windows XP. I don't really mind whether you use a versioning system or not, but I really don't see the …

Re: What do Microprose setups mean by MIDI "music IRQ"?

in DOSBox General
Which would all make sense, except that it doesn't actually seem to matter what I set the IRQ to in the Colonization setup for MT-32; it always works. Maybe DOSBox Daum has some magic way of woring no matter what the IRQ, or maybe Colonization just ignores that IRQ setting and tries to auto-detect …

What do Microprose setups mean by MIDI "music IRQ"?

in DOSBox General
Most of the time when I want to enable MIDI music for a game (especially MT-32), I will get prompted for the music card address, and then the music card will be detected if it exists. However I have noticed that for Microprose setups (for example Transport Tycoon and Colonization), it prompts me for …
