Re: List of DOS Games won't start in DOS

Any of you have this problem? The game won't start all in DOS. Machine is Pentium 3, 65MB of RAM, OS is Windows 95 OSR. Wing Commander 3 VESA DRIVER Present -- SVGA Possible . . . . . (Don't start) Wing Commander 4 (Film freeze sometimes, CD-ROM drive struts) Jane's USNF UNSF had a patch that …

Re: Geforce2 and FX not working?

Find a copy of Via 4 in 1 v4.42 and install them first. This is probably the MWQ bug and your register is not set properly. 4.42 always set it. I would always do this on a fresh install of my KT133a even if using newer drivers, otherwise no games or acceleration would work.

Re: Some questions re. CD-ROM Audio Cables..

In general a WDM driver is required. Some sound cards label these as the "Windows ME" driver in regards to 9x support. You just tick a box in your Multimedia settings for the CD drive. But a YMF-724 works with the 1040 VXD drivers and digital audio extraction for certain things (Daemons Tools); so …

Re: Duke3D SB16 emulation issues.

To OP: Had the same issues with an SB PCI512 (similar to the Live! Value) and DOS emulation. It was never fully fixed to my knowledge. The SB16 emulation included in the Live! drivers is basically the same as the PCI512's and I've tried various driver repacks over the years. X-Wing and Duke3D both …

Re: SB CT2940 with OPL?

I'm looking at my true OPL 2940 right now (CT2943, not A2) and it looks identical. The YMF-289B-S chip is just to the right of the blue capacitor looking thing. The print on the OPL chip looks the same if you squint too. I believe the other 2940 with CQM is integrated into the main chip. Also should …

Re: VM for my grandmother

Win9x on newer versions of VMWare Player/Workstation works for the most part; but I've never used it daily and tried passing through USB devices and such. Also I'm not sure you can create a new VM with the right compatibility settings without editing the config file by hand. Virtualbox is a complete …

Re: Odd Windows 95, CPU-Z on floppy

in Milliways
Your symptoms read like classic drive head misalignment. Floppies work in one machine, not another. I don't have a very good source on correcting this; because it's been much cheaper to replace a bad floppy drive than repair it for about 2 decades now. And like the other posts have stated, a bad …

Re: Audio Lag in Half-Life (Audigy LS SB0310)

in Windows
Don't worry about the acceleration; your sound quality shouldn't suffer (unless you need 3d positional sound). Basic means software buffered DirectSound only, Standard is pretty much the same, but I think it allows DirectSound 3D in software, and Full is hardware accelerated 3D and hardware mixing …

Re: DirectX6 and lower issues in Windows XP SP3

in Windows
Probably something between 186.xx and 260.xx, but that depends on when the 105m first showed up in the driver inf. Maybe see if you have an old OEM driver disc for reference. Edit: I do see it listed in 186.42 release notes. That was a really good series for my 9800 gtx+.
