Re: Upgrading to WinXP

in PC Emulation
So in theory if I have a FAT16 partition (probably 2 GB) for the cute little DOS proggies and drivers and I boot with a DOS 6.22 diskette I should still be able to access everything even if Win98SE and WinXP are on a FAT32 drive? You would only be able to access the FAT16 partition. MS-DOS 6.22 …

Re: Upgrading to WinXP

in PC Emulation
MS-DOS 6.22 does not support FAT32 actually, it didn't exist at that time. FAT32 was introduced with Windows 95 OSR2 (MS-DOS 7.1). Most games should run fine with Windows 98's DOS however so dual booting with 98 and XP should be sufficient. 😀

Re: Historic hardware

in PC Emulation
The original 8-bit slots did not actually have an official name; most people I know just called them PC slots or expansion slots. The term ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) didn't come around until the 16-bit slot was developed. There are some 16-bit ISA cards that will work fine in 8-bit slots; …

Re: moto racer 1

in Windows
First of all make sure you install the 3.22 patch. That should add proper D3D support and fix several problems. If that doesn't fix the problem try running it without D3D by using the command line argument -noD3D. Finally keep in mind that this game will only run with a 16-bit screen mode. Hope that …

Re: starfleet command problem in XP

in Windows
If the problem is with the game not recognizing the CD, using a No-CD patch should take care of it. Not having to put the CD in every time you want to play is another advantage to this; you can store it somewhere safe instead. Try Gamecopyworld.

Re: Myst III Exile

in Windows
If the above advice does not work try -running the installer in Windows 98 compatibility mode. -installing the game from a different CD-ROM drive if you have one. -check in the event viewer to see if there are any details about the error.

Re: A few questions.

in DOS
I started feeling nostalgic for 98 also a while back, but it didn't take me very long to change my mind. After fighting a whole day with it trying to get all of my hardware installed with no crashes or conflicts, and even then getting all those lovely crash messages I formatted the drive and put XP …

Re: Re-Loaded 95 : no win32 exe file?

in Windows
Personally, I don't see the safety benefit to limit a program from touching the sound card directly, In DOS this was no problem because there was only one program running at a time. However in Windows you can have many programs running at once, so normally Windows takes care of requests for …

The Need for Speed

in DOS
I recently got this game and have a couple of problems running it in XP. First of all the controls in the menu screen go absolutely crazy. It's hard to select anything because the selection box is jumping all over the place. The second problem is with sound. I have VDMSound and it starts to work, …

Re: A glide wrapper for DOS programs

I am using the latest Catalyst driver (4.7) on XP and haven't had any problems with it. Is it doing this on a particular game, or all of them? It sounds like something is causing the system to crash. In Windows XP (and possibly 2000) the system is configured to automatically reboot instead of …

Re: Rendition wrapper would be nice...

in PC Emulation
I think Microsoft did more damage to 3dfx than anything when everyone went to Direct3D instead of Glide. Ironically they almost killed nVidia also, because the NV1 didn't do things "Microsoft's way". Still 3dfx goofed up many times, so there's really no one to blame but themselves.

Re: Rendition wrapper would be nice...

in PC Emulation
I've always been curious about Rendition but I never had a chance to try it out. A few others that I know about but never owned are S3 Metal, RRedline, and a really obscure one from ATi called CIF. I actually have a game that uses that but I have never had any way to play it. I once tried copying …

PowerVR SGL Wrapper?

in PC Emulation
Does such a thing exist, or has anyone ever tried making one? I remember playing the SGL version of Tomb Raider a few years ago and it looked really nice. I have an old Apocalypse 3Dx card but it doesn't work in XP.

Re: NV-1 Emulation

in PC Emulation
Seeing as how this month marks the 2nd anniversary of this thread, I was just wondering if anything else ever came of this NV-1 wrapper idea. You were supposed to tell us more; you're not still in the shower are you? 😁
