Just switched to 430VX chipset motherboard and everything works flawlessly. Yeah, I don't think VIA is misunderstood and actually not that bad. At least this particular chipset.

I'm not sure either, just heard about it. I would advice to check the BIOS with modbin again and look for some additional hidden option regarding PS2 mouse functionality.

I was told that in some BIOSes there two settings for PS2 functionality and both of them must be set otherwise the mouse won't work. The second one should be in the CMOS section and has to be set in modbin too.

Try touching all chips with the system on, if any is hot. Maybe something shorted, it is old hardware after all. Do you have it inside a case or is it loose? Check for any bent pins on the underside, maybe some are touching others.

By the way, I have managed to enable PS2 mouse on Octek Hippo 10 with UM8498F/UM8496F chipset. In the end, my theory that KBCs bought on eBay are defective was right, More info to come in near future!
