86Box - Voodoo Tickbox in Display.... what drivers should I be installing for the three options in there? [Windows 98]

Concerning Windows 98 In 86Box there is a tickbox to add voodoo acceleration to your selected card. I have been using the Voodoo2 option in the drop down. For this to work correctly you need to install the correct voodoo2 drivers over an erroring device in device manager. I was wondering if anyone …

Re: VMWare Workstation Question Player : How do you scale the guest window without adjusting the resolution of the guest

Yeah... anything pre-6.1 in virtualBox has 3D acceleration... I read a few times after google searches that the last 5.2.44 is the best one to use. I have not done any tests on that... but it is the one I installed to run XP+. For security, I usually do not even install network functionality into …

Re: VMWare Workstation Question Player : How do you scale the guest window without adjusting the resolution of the guest

Workstation Pro has guest stretching (either free or keep aspect ratio), but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't let Player have it. EDIT: They didn't let Player have it ahhh... I see. Yeah. That is it. Was confusion the hell out of me as I guess all the examples I was looking at was using pro. …

VMWare Workstation Question Player : How do you scale the guest window without adjusting the resolution of the guest?

Hi there... I have been playing with VMs of late, I am very new to it all, but mainly been using 86Box or PCem. When I first started I used VirtualBox and then latter VMware. This thread is about VMware though. Basically VirtualBox has removed all direct 3D Support form it. I think Anything pre 6.1 …

Re: 86box_3.0 / PCem17 - Please help getting a win98 system running for playing old adventure games. (Sound Lag / Speed)

Did some more experiments... I got a very good pcem17 setup running.. I'll make a detailed post soon.. I just want to try a few more bios/cpu combos and see if it makes a difference... Also, I have switched to using an app called imdisk . Basically the entire win98 OS can fit on small drives, and …

Has anyone tried ArcaOS for retro gaming?

So I recently found out about this project called " ArcaOS ". It is a OS/2... um.. build?, port?.. not sure exactly, but it is designed with 100% compatibility for OS/2. The idea is that there is still a lot of professional infrastructure running OS/2 apps, particularly in the Banking Sector. Anyway …

I had a look at qemu ... but I couldn't work out how to use it.. it seems like it is a linux thing mainly. It is all command line and I couldn't find a manager for windows 10. All the tutorials I found use a manager in linux.... do you have any tutorial links for window 10? Since you didn't mention …

Re: 86box_3.0 / PCem17 - Please help getting a win98 system running for playing old adventure games. (Sound Lag / Speed)

Hi guys... I have made a ton of progress here and had some very good results.. so I'll try and go through it. I will most likely do some tutorial videos on my retro game uTube when I am 100% sure I know what I am doing so I will not go through anything in super detail hear, as there is a strong …

Re: 86box_3.0 / PCem17 - Please help getting a win98 system running for playing old adventure games. (Sound Lag / Speed)

Eh, no. dgvoodoo2 is a rewrite of early apis to dx11/12, old games making old api calls are intercepted with replacement dlls which implement those calls in dx11/12. http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/ReadmeGeneral/ It's very compatible, beyond faster than pcem or its fork 86box, no virtual machine …

Re: 86box_3.0 / PCem17 - Please help getting a win98 system running for playing old adventure games. (Sound Lag / Speed)

I think I have a 86box setup that might be passable... I need bed now, but will post the 86box setting tomorrow.. maybe people can give me some improvements. For me I just couldn't help but constantly notice mouse lag even when the system was running pegged at 100%. Which is sad, because a one stop …

Re: 86box_3.0 / PCem17 - Please help getting a win98 system running for playing old adventure games. (Sound Lag / Speed)

Well, the higher speed you want to emulate, the slower it will be, because it requires more resources to be 100% lag-free. I'm more looking for machine settings I guess that people have tried and had success with, so I could then try the same settings. I would highly suggest dgvoodoo2 before pcem. …
