Slow performance higher resolutions

I've got a few games that kind of stutter (especially audio and panning) in DOSBox. I always attributed it to crappy hardware. I ran them on Intel Atom Netbooks, and now nearly 10 year old Celeron laptops. But recently I've upgraded to a more modern i3 with iris XE graphics. While modest, it has 8 …

Re: Speed of the dynamic core..

Not sure if this is connected, but MDK benchmark always gets me a score of 250 under Dosbox. Probably hitting the 30/60fps vsync; while a P233Mhz natively gets about 225 score points. And The Lost Eden gets choppy framerates when running at 800x600, like most "3D" games of the time (sprite based). …

Re: Playing DOS games in DOSBox from zip files

Old topic, still interesting. Disk compression compresses between 5 to 20%. File compression like 7z, RAR, or even Winzip, compresses between 25-80%; that is uncompressed data of course. If you're going to try to compress an MP2/3 file, JPEG, or another archive, you won't get those ratios, as the …

MDK on Wine, mouse issue

in Windows
Hi all, I own a legal copy of MDK, bought it a long time ago. However, it no longer works on Windows 10. I got the DOS version to work on DOSBOX. However, I tried it on an old netbook running Linux, and was able to run the Windows version of the game (the D3D version) on Wine in Lubuntu, but I'm …

Dos4GW options?

Hi all! Wondering if DOS4GW.exe is still used in dosbox? Too bad 64 bit operating systems have no backwards compatibility with 16bit programs. Anyone has a list of possible options for DOS4GW? Like, can certain memory addresses, extensions, configurations or performance be modified by adding …

Re: Help with Output setting

MDK had a performance testing program, and my Xeon has a low single core CPU speed (but many cores), which affects performance negatively in DOSbox. This it's easy to see for me which setting performs better. Surface shows the image in original aspect ratio, with a performance rating of about 147. …

Re: Something for Windows RT?

I really liked it for the battery life it offers. Together with a keyboard, meant for the pro-series, I get a real "all day" battery out of it, no matter what I do (except heavy gaming, which lasts about 6 hours only). No x86 pc or laptop, without an overly large battery can do that!

Re: Type |more not working

Well, the 'more' command is still not working. Am I supposed to mount a DOS directory into the Z;\ drive (drive dosbox uses for it's command.com file); and if so, what version should I use? I've noted some programs are limited to their version of command.com. I thought "|more" was a syntaxis of the …

Default sound frequency 44100, not 22050Hz

I think it's better if the default frequency for the audio in dosbox.conf is set to 44100Hz instead of 22050Hz. Most computers manufactured after 1999 have 44100 Hz capable audio cards. (SBPro, or SB16 compatibility). Most computers also run Dosbox from another operating system like Windows XP or …
