Does this happen every time you enter alien bases, only on certain map tiles etc. Does it happen on other parts of the map or just the part in your screenshot? Looks like it could be missing/corrupt map data. I'd backup my savegames and try a quick reinstall.

Why play it in DOSbox? The windows version works fine in win xp for me. There is an unofficial patch that fixes the mouse crashing bug.

Possible solution for op: copy all directories from cd to your ad dir (DAT,DEV,GFX,SFX,TXT,VFX) and just overwrite the old files. This enables you to play without the cd (my version has no cd-check). Then run setup from dosbox and configure the sound. You may want to download the update as well. …
