Re: Dosbox Tandy 1000 Graphics Emulation

Nah I had the box and all... Bought it at my friendly neighborhood Radioshack with my hard earned allowance. ;) We didn't have internet back then, or even good BBS dial-ups, so getting pirated software was HARD. (Up until the 90's the only "pirated" software I ever saw was via five-finger discount - …

Re: Dosbox Tandy 1000 Graphics Emulation

Hrmm... I might understand that with one game, but two? Also Thexder didn't have any copy protection to crack - I know because I remember making several backup disks and playing from them. Too bad they are all long gone now. :\ Could you post me the .conf you use for Thexder?

Re: Dosbox Tandy 1000 Graphics Emulation

Nope, that didn't fix it. It did give me an annoying dos-box logo pop-up I didn't have to deal with before though. :( Not sure if this is the right forum section for this either... Dos Box general help says not to post ap-specific issues - although this is more machine emulation specific - not sure …

Dosbox Tandy 1000 Graphics Emulation (Solved)

I can't seem to get the 16-color Tandy Graphics emulation to work within DOSBox v0.72. The old pc-speaker three channel sound works fine - but graphics fail to display entirely. Currently I'm trying to get it to work Thexder (ooo the nostalgia of wasted youth!), as well as Defender of the Crown. ( …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

in DOS
At risk of necroposting... I thought I'd mention this for anyone looking for graphics compatibility in a newer graphics card. Although none of the newer EVGA cards seem to handle this. The 8800GT OC from BFG handles it just fine. It seems to handle more or less every CGA/VGA mode. (...and I just …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

Nah, I'm saying I'm taking this card back, getting my money back, and buying a new one. If I can't find a suitable one at the place I got it, I can live with my on-board graphics for a few days until I can order a new one someplace else. I actually started a bit of a poll on the 3dguru threads (over …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

FINALLY... This is a really basic inventory program, it just has this CGA-light title screen and chart interface, nothing as complicated as a video game, so if your PCI-E card can do the white screen bit, I'm sure it can handle this... So umm... Jeeze, I'm not familiar at all with the ATI anymore. …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

in DOS
Did that. :\ Also did SFC /scannow. Also, mind you, did fresh XP install. Basically, until I find someone with a PCI-E card that can do CGA, I think I'm SOL. In some chinese forum on the subject I managed to extract this related VDD registry path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/ …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

in DOS
My *guess* is (or rather, I should say, my *fear* is) that the NTVDM CPU's virtual int10 can't translate to PCI-E cards, so any attempt to change the screen mode from the command prompt fails, even if it's valid or pure text. Again, I've not found anyone with a PCI-E card who can tell me if the CGA …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

in DOS
No, I'm saying I tested both ways. The EVGA card works in pure DOS, but not in Windows. The integrated card works in both. Ergo, the EVGA card sux. (It's not the fault of the CPU, mobo, memory, or something else.) And yes, disabled through the BIOS (actually no other way to switch between the cards …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

THE MYSTERY THICKENS Alright... I booted onto a floppy with Qbasic... Guess what, on the pure-dos floppy, IT WORKS. So it's not that the modes aren't there, it's just it won't use them at the Windows command line without going smashie. The on-board Intel Graphics card DOES work in DOS and the …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

What happens when you set some cga mode? (especially try the cga graphics modes and see if it stays in text mode or just screws up the screen). Goes blank for sec, then gives me that error pop-up I described in the first post. If I click ignore, the screen stays blank until I force it to close. …

Great, I've been nVidia for so many years, I've learned all the painful ins and outs, and I'm going to have to buy an ATI now? I did have a brief and painful experience with an ATI 9800XT years ago, I dropped it for an FX5600, so that should give you some idea of how bad the experience was. …

Re: All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

in DOS
Well, it's old custom inventory software, so I suspect I'd have to give it to them. I'd think that it was that the graphics card simply doesn't support the format anymore, like you say - but I was talking to a guy on Guru 3D who was able to get CGA in DOS on a BFG nVidia 7800 - I'd downgrade my card …

All DOS Graphics Generate NTVDM CPU Error

in DOS
My old BFG 6800GTOC AGP supported CGA in old dos applications at the command line. I have a few small, old, but critical aps that I need from time to time that use these graphics modes. My new EVGA 7950GTKO gives me this error: --------------------------- 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem …
